Many jellyfish found dead along beach in Kyaukphyu
Thousands of jellyfish were found dead along Nadi Thaungyan Beach in Arakan State’s Kyaukphyu Township on the morning of February 17, locals said.

Thousands of jellyfish were found dead along Nadi Thaungyan Beach in Arakan State’s Kyaukphyu Township on the morning of February 17, locals said.
Kyaukphyu resident Ko Maung Maung Win said that dead jellyfish began washing ashore on February 16, with many more of them turning up the next day.
“It started on February 16 but not many jellyfish [at that time]. There were much more the next day,” he said. “The size of the fish is small. I have never seen that many dead jellyfish in my life. They are along Nadi Thaungyan Beach near U Ottama Park.”
U Tin Htoo, the section head of the Kyaukphyu Fisheries Department, said the jellyfish were tossed ashore and died due to weather conditions.
“It isn’t due to other reasons. It was a bit windy and created big waves. That’s why they were washed up on shore and died. It can happen during this season. We’ve found out now that the size of the fish is small. You cannot eat them,” he said.
Local fishermen said they have seen many small jellyfish in the waters off Kyaukphyu this year.
