The Department of Rural Development has been planning to supply water if Rakhine State faces water shortages during this summer.

Telephone hotline numbers have been distributed to respective villages and townships by the department, U Aung Thein Tun, deputy director of Department of Rural Development, told the DMG.

“Phone numbers to contact township heads of the Department of Rural Development were given to villagers who may need help,” he said.

“We will supply water to villages facing a water crisis as soon as possible. We are also preparing for water facilities next year. We will get water from anywhere and supply them by car, boat or by any other means of transportation,” he added.

Currently, only one village from Thandwe Township was facing a water scarcity and the department supplied water to that village, he said.

Mrauk-U, Kyauktaw and Ponnagyun Townships are the most affected areas facing water shortages during the summer according to the Department of Rural Development.
