A police lieutenant from Kyauktaw Myoma police station in Arakan State was stabbed to death on Saturday afternoon, residents said.

Police Lieutenant Aung Min Zaw, who was previously head of the Apaukwa police station in Kyauktaw Township, was attacked by two men on a motorcycle while he was riding his own motorbike in Kyauktaw town’s Myothit ward, said a resident of Kyauktaw who declined to be named, citing security concerns.

“The road was busy with motorcycles when he was stabbed by the two men,” the resident said.

The lieutenant was stabbed six times and died on the spot, the resident added.

Pyithu Hluttaw lawmaker U Oo Tun Win said he had heard about the case but did not know details.

DMG phoned the head of the Kyauktaw Myoma police station seeking comment on the killing, but he said to wait for an expected Tatmadaw statement on the matter.

The Tatmadaw True News Information Team had not released any announcement as of 7:30 p.m. on June 13, however.

On August 19, 2019, Police Major Saw Than Lwin from the Kyauktaw Myoma police station was stabbed to death. About one month later, on September 22, Police Sergeant U Maung Hla from Kyauktaw police station was also fatally stabbed.
