More than 40 healthcare workers are among a total of 515 coronavirus cases reported in Arakan State as of the morning of September 5, according to the state’s Department of Public Health.
Dr. Soe Win Paing, assistant director of the Arakan State Department of Public Health, said the infected medical staff are from Sittwe, Pauktaw, Kyaukphyu and other townships in Arakan State.
Two doctors and 15 nurses and nursing assistants from the Arakan State capital Sittwe tested positive for COVID-19, Dr. Zaw Lwin told DMG.
At Sittwe General Hospital, there are more than 250 COVID-19 patients, four of whom are under intensive care while the others are in good health, he added.
A total of 128 medical staff including doctors and nurses from Yangon and other parts of the country are temporarily working in Sittwe, Kyaukphyu, Ann, Pauktaw and Manaung townships to aid in their efforts to combat the pandemic, according to figures from the Ministry of Health and Sports released on September 3.
