Two staff from the Maungdaw District General Administration Department in Arakan State tested positive for COVID-19 on June 20.

Dr. Nu Kaythi San, superintendent of Maungdaw District Hospital, told DMG: “Two staff tested positive for COVID-19 this morning. So, other staff from the department are staying at home.”

The two positive cases did not have travel histories and were community transmissions, she added.

One of the two staff is an officer, according to the department.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maungdaw Township reached five as of June 20 and one of them has been discharged from the hospital so far.

Two of the five patients had entered Myanmar illegally from Bangladesh.

Health authorities in Maungdaw Township recently warned the public to be mindful of the continuing threat posed by the coronavirus, as residents say compliance with health regulations has been weak.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Arakan State until June 17 is 69, and some of them are returnees from Bangladesh after trading and illegal returnees.
