Wards in Ramree submerged by up to two feet of floodwaters

Some wards in Ramree town have been inundated by up to two feet of water after days of steady rains in Arakan State, residents said.

Some wards in Ramree town have been inundated by up to two feet of water after days of steady rains in Arakan State, residents said. 

Flooding has been reported in three Ramree town wards due to heavy rain and high tide, said U Tun Tun Oo, a resident of the No. 4 ward, one of the flood-affected areas. 

“There is no report of damage or injury so far,” he said. 

Heavy rains were also blamed for recent flash floods in Arakan State’s Thandwe and Taungup towns. 

Most townships in Arakan State face flooding, to varying degrees, each monsoon season. In 2019, flooding in Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U and Minbya townships destroyed tens of thousands of acres of monsoon paddy
