Five detained youths transferred back to Paletwa from Sittwe

 

Five youths arrested in connection with two bomb blasts in Paletwa, Chin State, on May 28 were taken back to the Paletwa Township police station from the Sittwe’s Myoma police station on July 11 without trial, according to family members.

Five youths arrested in connection with two bomb blasts in Paletwa, Chin State, on May 28 were taken back to the Paletwa Township police station from the Sittwe’s Myoma police station on July 11 without trial, according to family members. 

U Oo Chit Thein, the father of 28-year-old company employee Aik Tun Min, told DMG that his son and the other detainees had not been convicted of any crime and wanted to be released. 

“The detainees were taken back to Paletwa from Sittwe. My son is innocent. I want the detainees released ... They were arrested in connection with two bomb explosions in Paletwa Township,” he said. 

The five detainees have been identified as Ko Aik Tun Min, a singer, Aik Tun Min, the company employee, and Forest Department staff Aik Tun Min, U Yar Kyaw and Aung Tun Soe. They range in age from 28 to 31 years old. 

The detainees face trial in Paletwa Township, according to Police Major Tun Ko Ko Latt from Paletwa’s Myoma police station. 

“They are currently being tried by a township judge of the Paletwa Township Court. As a police officer, I arrested them and brought charges against them in court. The magistrate accepted the case and is investigating them,” the police officer said. 

The five have been charged under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code and could face up to one year in prison, a fine, or both if convicted.
