Five cows belonging to a farmer in Mucha village, Mrauk-U Township, were attacked on December 20 and the owner of the cattle has reportedly lodged a complaint with the Arakan Army (AA) and the township administrator.

U Maung Saw Tun, the owner, said that eight of his cows were tied up in a field near the village and five of the bovines’ legs were cut off with a knife on Monday night.

“I think my five cows were deliberately chosen and cut with a knife. Cattle that have been slaughtered can no longer be used as oxen,” he added.

The cow owner’s farm is located about one mile outside of Mucha village.

U Maung Saw Tun said he was more concerned about the potential danger to human life than the fact that his cows were attacked.

U Hla Maung Than, the administrator of Mucha village, said it was not yet known who was behind the incident.

In a statement on December 17, the United League of Arakan (ULA) — the Arakan Army’s political wing — said that some townships in Arakan State had experienced a “series of extraordinary events” this month that it warned could lead to sectarian conflict.
