Centenarian takes refuge in Mrauk-U IDP camp

A 108- year- old grandmother is one of the IDPs who fled from the battle in Phayargyi village, Mrauk-U Township, on March 5.
Daw Aung Ma Nyo is now taking refuge in Sin Baw Kaing camp in Mrauk-U Township with her 67-year-old daughter Daw Ma Tin Yi.
“She had some body pain when she was carried there, but she is healthy,” said her daughter.
The noises from the people in the camp created problems for her and the tarp roof of the shelter is so low that she suffers terribly in the day because of the heat, the grandmother said.
Although she has poor eyesight, she can recall the memories from the past, and she had been displaced in the war under the Japanese reign during the Second World War.
It was difficult for the centenarian mother to live in the camp where everything from cleaning to sleeping is not so easy due to the limited space she now resides at, Daw Ma Tin Yi said.
Over 1500 IDPs from five villages take shelter in the Sin Baw Kaing camp.
