A police officer at Apaukwa Police Station in Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township was reportedly arrested by the Arakan Army on Thursday.

The police officer was detained en route to Kyauktaw town at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, said a local resident who declined to be named for security reasons.

“He [the police officer], carrying three bags of clothes with him, hired a motorbike taxi to go to a bus station in Kyauktaw town. He was arrested on the way to Kyauktaw town,” the unnamed resident explained.

The police officer has been assigned to Apaukwa Police Station for one year.

“He is not an Arakanese man. He has recently been assigned to Kyauktaw,” the unnamed resident said. “I don’t know whether the police station is aware of his disappearance or not. The police have yet to investigate the abduction and the situation is normal.”

DMG continues to attempt to contact AA spokesman U Khaing Thukha regarding the matter.

The Arakan Army and military junta have traded arrests in recent days following a resumption of hostilities at levels not seen since 2020. The Myanmar military has detained dozens of civilians on suspicion of having ties to the AA over recent months.
