Homes damaged by shelling in Minbya

Some homes were damaged after an artillery shell landed and exploded near Myoma Market in Ale Zay Ward in Arakan State’s Minbya at about 1 p.m. on September 25, according to locals.

A home in downtown Minbya was damaged by the recent artillery shelling.

Some homes were damaged after an artillery shell landed and exploded near Myoma Market in Ale Zay Ward in Arakan State’s Minbya at about 1 p.m. on September 25, according to locals.

“I didn’t know which group fired the artillery as it was the dead of night when the shelling occurred. Three artillery shells fired from an unknown direction fell in downtown Minbya. Two homes near the market were damaged by the shelling,” said an unnamed resident.

Ko Hsan Oo, a resident of Minbya, said residents are panicking because heavy weapons fire has started in downtown Minbya.

“We are worried about our safety due to heavy weapons firing, because I heard the reports of shelling in Mrauk-U and Kyauktaw at night. Shooting started in Minbya today. We are concerned that similar incidents will occur in downtown Minbya in the future. We need to be aware of artillery shelling,” he added.

In recent days, junta soldiers have checked the motorbike licenses of locals in downtown Minbya. Junta soldiers are currently not stationed in downtown Minbya and the situation is normal, according to local people.

A guesthouse and three homes in Arakan State’s Kyauktaw were damaged by an artillery shell at around 2 a.m. on September 24, according to locals.
