Junta troops abducted 10 local men from Kalonehtar Village, part of Tanintharyi Region’s Yebyu Township, on November 17, according to fellow villagers.

Dozens of soldiers from the military’s Yebyu-based Light Infantry Battalion No. 406 raided Kalonehtar Village on Thursday and seized the 10 men, said a resident.

“A 50-strong military contingent raided the village on the pretext that there were resistance fighters in the village. They [junta soldiers] are currently stationed in the village,” the resident added.

The group of 10 men consisted of three youths in their 20s and seven in their 30s, according to eyewitnesses.

“Junta soldiers detained 10 young men in the village for questioning. I don’t know where they were taken,” one eyewitness said.

More than 500 local people have fled to the village’s monastery and elsewhere deemed safer than their homes, according to residents.

“Almost all residents have fled to safer locations since the military raid. Some residents are currently taking refuge at the village monastery and some fled to the forests. Some residents fled to Yebyu,” a displaced Kalonehtar villager said.

DMG phoned Major-General Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for the regime, regarding the military’s abduction of 10 locals in Yebyu Township, but he could not be reached.
