Over 500 vendors from Sittwe’s Myoma market are going to be relocated to the New Town project, according to the office of the City Development Committee in Sittwe Township.

The department has arranged to relocate vendors with the intention to facilitate movement in the market crowded with buyers and sellers, said U Kyaw Moe, executive officer of the office of

City Development Committee in Sittwe Township.

“We arranged for a small place for vendors.  So, they had to sell on the Strand road and Market road and that caused congestion on the road. Vehicles and pedestrians faced difficulty traveling in these areas. So, we have planned to arrange new places for vendors,” U Kyaw Moe said.

Most of the vendors relocating to the new location are vegetable sellers. They were given two acres of land. The BXT Company and the regional government have been developing the land in the area and some is for vendors.

U Kyaw Moe said that the relocation is for vendors who are selling their goods on Strand and Yay Dwin roads.

The Department did not say the exact date of the relocation.
