Women from a village in Buthidaung Township were forcefully taken by the military this afternoon, according to Member of Parliament for Buthidaung Township.

Women from Thayet Pyin village were taken by soldiers from No.551 Battalion at about 2 PM, but the number of detained women is not yet known, U Aung Thaung Shwe said.

“The military troops from No.551 Battalion were shooting since the morning between Kyar Nyo Pyin and Thayet Pyin villages. Villagers said that they were still hearing the sound of gunfire,” he said.

U Aung Thein Hla, administrator for Kyar Nyo Pyin village, said that his villagers were staying in their homes because soldiers were outside their village. He added that he had no idea why the military troops arrested women from Thayet Pyin village.

“There is no clash here. Only the Tatmadaw troops shoot guns. I have heard that women were taken from their village, but did not know the exact number,” the village administrator said.

Ko Zaw Win Naing from Kyar Nyo Pyi village said: “We all are afraid of going outside since soldiers enter the village very often. All villagers are hiding in their homes.”

The DMG could not reach Colonel Win Zaw Oo from the Western Command and Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun from the Tatmadaw True News Information Team for comment.
