A female student from Kyauk Yan village, Rathedaung Township was struck by a stray bullet during hostilities between the Tatmadaw and the AA, U Sandawara, abbot of the Kyauk Yan monastery, said.

There was a three-hour long battle near Ma Nyin Taung village, about a mile from Kyauk Yan village, on 30 October morning. A stray bullet from the fighting hit Ma Hnin Chay, a 13-year-old student in her left arm.

The injured student could not be sent to Ratheduang township hospital because boatmen from the village fled to safe areas when a military column had entered the village, the abbot said.

“We’d like to send her to the hospital as quickly as possible because she’s in pain. But we have to give her medical treatment at the monastery because there was no man to drive the motorboat,” the abbot said.

The senior monk requested medicine and medical attention for the teenager from the military troop, locals said.

The fighting between the Tatmadaw and the AA in Arakan State has now been intensifying in Kyauktaw, Rathedaung, Minbya and Mrauk-U townships.
