NLD ducks responsibility for fatal road accident in Manaung Twsp
A local resident of Arakan State’s Manaung Township was killed in a road accident involving a National League for Democracy campaign caravan on Wednesday. The chairman of the township NLD chapter, U Than Wai, said the accident had nothing to do with the ruling party.

A local resident of Arakan State’s Manaung Township was killed in a road accident involving a National League for Democracy campaign caravan on Wednesday. The chairman of the township NLD chapter, U Than Wai, said the accident had nothing to do with the ruling party.
“I heard that the victim was riding a bicycle and as he rode down the bridge, he hit a car that was parked by the road. It was nothing to do with the party or candidates. The party’s supporters requested permission to organise a rally, and we were not able to stop them,” said U Than Wai.
The 74-year-old victim from Kontan village died at Manaung Hospital about an hour after the accident, according to police.
U Maung Tin, who joined Wednesday’s rally, said the party or its supporters should take responsibility.
“The accident had nothing to do with the party or the candidates. But they need to do their fair share to help get this resolved. Only acting this way would be fair,” he said.
The driver of the car was charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide and is being detained, according to the Manaung Township police.
