Airstrike near Kayin State village kills two civilians, injures six
The Myanmar military reportedly carried out an airstrike on February 5 near Tanweekhar village in Dweloe, Kayin State, killing two villagers and injuring six others, according to a source close to the Karen National Union (KNU), which has troops from its Brigade 5 stationed in the area.

The Myanmar military reportedly carried out an airstrike on February 5 near Tanweekhar village in Dweloe, Kayin State, killing two villagers and injuring six others, according to a source close to the Karen National Union (KNU), which has troops from its Brigade 5 stationed in the area.
“The regime council’s military forces conducted surveillance before conducting airstrikes. They might have attacked near the village as they thought there was a KNU base,” the source said.
Some houses were also destroyed due to the airstrike on Saturday morning, with some villagers fleeing their homes and others hiding in bomb shelters during the aerial attack, said a member of a Karen humanitarian aid group.
“Airstrikes occurred previously and villagers had already been told to build bomb shelters at their homes. Some are taking refuge near the Thanlwin River at the border with Thailand,” he said.
A total of 322 clashes took place between junta forces and the Karen National Liberation Army in January, according to the ethnic armed group. The military conducted airstrikes 14 times and fired 182 rounds into villages and farmlands, killing five civilians and injuring 18 others, the KNLA reported.
