A civilian who suffered a leg injury in fighting between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) some two years ago requires medical and financial assistance as his leg wound is not recovering.

U Thein Myint, 45, from Ywar Haung Village in Ann Township, suffered a gunshot wound in his right leg in September 2020. He had to stay in hospital for two months, and ultimately had to have surgery for a metal rod implant.

After he was discharged from the hospital, he was forced by fighting near his village to flee to a displacement camp in Kanhtaunggyi town. His injury has recently worsened and needs emergency treatment at Sittwe Hospital, said U Thein Myint.

“I had the steel rod implanted in 2020. The doctor from Kanhtaunggyi cottage hospital said the stitches could be removed. So, I had them removed. Now, the steel rod is exposed. I can’t walk because of the pain. I want to receive treatment at Sittwe Hospital. I need help because I can’t afford to travel to Sittwe,” he said.

U Thein Myint said he has been living a difficult life at the displacement camp as he has no job. Things are getting more challenging for him as displaced people are receiving fewer relief supplies these days.

“I can’t even afford transportation costs to travel to Sittwe, not to mention costs for accommodation and meals. I have travelled twice to Sittwe with financial contributions from well-wishers to get a transplant, and when I got an infection in the wound,” he said. He can be reached at 09-450358463.
