More shelters should be built for IDPs staying in the camps in Mrauk-U ancient city’s Myothit ward, official of the camp said.

Over 700 people are taking shelter in the camp and there were 80 houses built by the ICRC, but the number of IDPs has surpassed the existing number of shelters, said U Sein Hla Maung, manager of the camp.

“The ICRC provided for over one hundred households. Now, 180 households are taking refuge in the camp. There are 80 houses and the rest of the families are taking shelter in temporary tents,” he said.

Refugees are also in dire need of foods, health care and education access for their children, he added.

The ongoing clashes in northern Arakan State have forced nearly 60,000 people from their homes and the hostilities have been intensifying while the area of armed conflicts is growing.
