The military has been clashing with the Arakha Army (AA) near Ngapyin Village on the Minbu-Magway road about 20 miles east of Ann Township in Arakan State since 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

Dozens of junta soldiers from the military’s Ann-based Western Command headquarters were ambushed by the AA, a reliable source said.

“The AA intercepted dozens of regime soldiers coming from Ann in six military trucks,” the source in Ann Township added.

Local people from the scene of the clash and nearby villages are worried about their safety as the fighting was said to be fierce, said a local man in Ann.

“We heard the sound of heavy weapons and small arms fire. The fighting seems to be intense,” the local man added.

AA chief Twan Mrat Naing urged residents in Arakan State to brace for the decisive battle in the state in his message marking the 15th anniversary of the founding of the AA on April 10.

The AA has so far seized nine townships in Arakan State and neighbouring Chin State, and continues to launch offensive attacks on Buthidaung, Maungdaw and Ann townships.

The AA continues to launch offensive attacks on regime forces in an effort to control the entirety of Arakan State, the ethnic armed group said in a statement.
