Lightning strike kills farmer in Pauktaw Twsp
A farmer in Arakan State’s Pauktaw Township was struck dead by lightning on Monday morning, according to locals.

A farmer in Arakan State’s Pauktaw Township was struck dead by lightning on Monday morning, according to locals.
The deceased has been identified as U Maung Kyaw Sein, a 41-year-old tenant farmer who died after being struck by lightning in Repadae village at around 7:30 a.m. on June 13, said U Tun Thar Aung, a local 100-household head.
“He was struck by lightning while ploughing with a tractor. He died of burn injuries,” U Tun Thar Aung added.
U Maung Kyaw Sein would be buried on Monday evening, said U Maung Than Soe, a resident of Repadae village.
U Hla Tun of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology told DMG that more thunderstorms should be expected during the current monsoon season due to the effects of climate change.
“The risk of thunderstorms is likely to be higher this year than ever before,” he said. “The exact amount and frequency of thunderstorms is not known. This year’s heat is higher than previous years, so there is a greater risk of thunderstorms.”
A woman from Angumaw village in Arakan State’s Rathedaung Township was killed in a lightning strike on June 2.
