Myanmar's military regime has arrested 11 local residents after a bomb dropped by a drone landed and exploded near a school last week in Yinsae Village, part of Ayeyarwady's Region Laymyethna Township.
The drone strike, which no group has claimed responsibility for, occurred on August 27, injuring at least 15 students and teachers.
A local resident in Laymyethna said that after the incident, junta soldiers entered the village and arrested 11 villagers.
"Among those arrested were both men and women. The villagers were arrested mainly for questioning in connection with the drone attack. The arrested people have not been released yet," said the local man.
The arrestees were reportedly detained from August 28-30, and are being questioned at Ai Thabyu police station in Laymyethna Township.
"The military regime has blocked the entrance and exit of the village and is arresting suspects. All of those arrested are civilians. It is possible that the military regime carried out the drone attack. It is also possible that the military regime is doing so to suppress the revolutionary forces and the people," said a local woman in Laymyethna Township.
The village where the drone's bomb exploded is only about 6 miles from the scene of fighting between the Myanmar military and anti-regime forces, and is in an area controlled by the military regime.
Although there is currently no serious fighting on the Pathein-Monywa road in Laymyethna Township, there are reportedly military tensions between junta and anti-regime forces in the area.
The Arakan Army (AA) and local anti-regime forces are conducting joint military operations in Ayeyarwady Region, with clashes reported in Ingapu, Laymyethna, Yekyi, Thabaung and Pathein townships.
