The Sittwe district court on Monday discharged Ko Ye Zaw, alias Ye Kyaw Thu, who has been facing trial over the murder of a corporal of the Military Security Unit in Yangon.
After hearing statements from 17 prosecution witnesses, the court ordered to discharge him because the prosecution could not present sufficient evidence to prove he was guilty of the killing of Corporal Phoe Lone, said Daw Aye Nu Sein, lawyer for the accused.
Cpl Phoe Lone was shot to death at Wingaba field in Sittwe during a fair on 25 September last year.
Aung Chay, Khaing Bo Bo, May Yu Tun and Ye Zaw have been charged for murder after the corporal’s wife Daw Hmway Zarni Aung filed a complaint.
Ko Ye Zaw was arrested on 15 December in Yangon during the celebration of Rakhine State Day. Three other suspects were released before the case was put on trial for insufficient evidence.
