Taungup man detained by security personnel, say family members
A resident of Lamu village-tract in Arakan State’s Taungup Township was abducted by two uniformed military personnel and two plainclothes policemen on June 18, according to family members of the detainee.

A resident of Lamu village-tract in Arakan State’s Taungup Township was abducted by two uniformed military personnel and two plainclothes policemen on June 18, according to family members of the detainee.
Ko Kyaw Myint, the brother-in-law of the arrestee U Aye Than Maung, said he did not know why or where the man was taken.
U Aye Than Maung runs a timber trading business, according to his wife Daw Than Myint Chay, who said she was concerned about her husband’s safety because he was arrested without warning.
DMG contacted U Zaw Win, head of the Lamu regional police station, concerning U Aye Than Maung’s arrest, but he replied that he did not know anything about the case because he was travelling.
DMG also phoned U Myint Swe, the administrator of Lamu village-tract, in an attempt to confirm whether U Aye Than Maung had been detained or not, but he did not answer his phone.
Daw Than Myint Chay denied that her husband was arrested for participating in an anti-coup protest in Taungup Township.
Seven people including Ko Aung Hlaing Win, chairman of the Moe Pyinnyar Dana Philanthropic Association in Taungup, Arakan State, were reportedly arrested by the Tatmadaw on June 5, according to family members.
