Fierce fighting is ongoing between the Myanmar military regime and a coalition led by the Arakan Army (AA) near Nat Yay Kan tactical junta base in Ngaphe Township, Magway Region, along the Ann–Padan Road, with the regime reportedly deploying drones in the clashes.

A source familiar with the military situation said heavy fighting is taking place between a junta column and a joint force headed by the Arakan Army between Pazi and Gotegyi villages, near the Nat Yay Kan junta base, and that the military has suffered heavy casualties.

“Fighting has been intense in recent days between Pazi and Gotegyi villages near the Nat Yay Kan junta base. The Arakan Army and allied forces blocked a junta column moving near Gotegyi Village. As the military regime suffered heavy casualties, it responded with drone strikes and heavy weapons fire, including artillery from Padan. Fighting between the two sides has been intense almost every day,” the source said.

The military regime is fighting a joint resistance force on the Nat Yay Kan front, and Gotegyi Village was attacked in late December.

Near the Nat Yay Kan junta tactical base, mobile regime troops have reportedly been blocked and attacked, forcing the military to resupply food and ammunition by air.

The Arakan Army-led forces have been besieging the Nat Yay Kan junta tactical base for months, cutting off supply routes for food and ammunition.

Nat Yay Kan is a major air defence base on the Magway–Arakan border and is considered a strategically important military installation, raising expectations that fighting will further intensify.

“The Nat Yay Kan junta tactical base is very important for both the military regime and revolutionary forces. It is a direct link between Rakhine and Magway, making it strategically significant. The base is important for the regime to protect its weapons factories, while it is also crucial for the Arakan Army in defending Arakan State,” said a military observer.

The Arakan Army and allied forces have conducted offensives in Magway Region since January 2025, seizing control of several outposts and villages around the Nat Yay Kan tactical base in the Arakan mountain range.

Clashes have persisted for years in the Arakan mountain range, as the military regime has attempted to advance into Ann Township in Arakan State via the Ann–Padan Road from the Nat Yay Kan junta tactical base.
