Junta warships increase activity along southern Arakan coast

The military junta is attempting to land troops using warships along the coasts of Thandwe and Gwa townships in southern Arakan State to launch an offensive, according to local sources.

Since early September, five warships have been actively engaged in military operations and shelling near Ngapali Beach, Kyeintali and the vicinity of Jeittaw Ward in Ngapali Town.

“Many military junta warships have shown increased operational movement in recent days. On September 4, there was also heavy artillery shelling from onboard the warships,” said a military source.

Due to heavy artillery shelling from the naval vessels, local residents in villages along the coast have fled for safety.

With military junta naval movements along the Thandwe and Gwa coastlines visibly increasing compared to before, local residents fear that military conflict will intensify.

“Although the junta warships have paused shelling today, anxieties remain high. People in villages close to the shore have to stay vigilant. Even though there are no active ground battles at present, there is deep concern that junta warships will dock and launch ground offensives,” a local resident in Thandwe said.

Active fighting between the military junta and the Arakan Army is currently intensifying in Sittwe and Kyaukphyu townships.

With military tensions escalating across Arakan State, the Arakan Army has issued an urgent security advisory urging the public to remain on high alert.
