At least 10 people were reportedly injured in a bomb blast at a wedding reception in Waidi Village, part of Tanintharyi Region’s Launglon Township, on December 29.

“A bomb blew up at the wedding reception counter at about 8 a.m., wounding about a dozen people,” said a local resident.

“Three people — two women and one man — were sent to Dawei Hospital as their conditions are considered life-threatening. The remaining people sustained minor injuries in the explosion,” said an official from a local social organisation in Launglon.

Following the explosion, junta soldiers and police arrived in the village and reportedly abducted 15 local youths at about 4 a.m. on December 30.

“Junta soldiers and police detained 15 youths in the village for questioning early this morning. They also conducted checks near the scene of the bomb explosion,” said a resident of Waidi Village.

As of press time, no group had yet claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Military tensions between the military and anti-regime groups led by Brigade 4 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) are running high in Launglon Township, with frequent clashes between the two sides reported in the area.
