Renewed fighting and rising military tensions between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) have reportedly forced the closure of about 50 public schools in three Arakan State townships.

One civilian was killed and five others were injured last month in clashes between junta troops and resistance forces in Kayin (Karen) State’s Papun, a territory controlled by Brigade 5 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA).

A civilian lost a leg in a landmine blast in Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township on Thursday evening, according to locals.

The junta-controlled Myanma Alin newspaper reported that the regime was trying to reoccupy a regime outpost near the Bangladeshi border that the Arakan Army (AA) had seized on August 31.
