Four Navy personnel from Danyawaddy Regional Command’s No. 1 base in Maungdaw Township have been arrested for trespassing on territorial waters of Bangladesh.

A pressure cooker exploded while rice was cooking for observers of Buddhist precepts on Thursday morning at Yadana Man Aung monastery in Maei town in Taungup Township, the explosion killed a novice and two women and injured three others.

Artillery shells landed in U Yin Tha and Sin Thay Byin village in Buthidaung Township this afternoon resulting in three houses going up in flames.

A fierce armed confrontation between the Tatmadaw and the Arakan Army erupted at Lin Mway Taung mountain range in Mrauk-U Township early on Wednesday morning, both sides confirmed.

Daw Aye Yin, 42, from Shwe Lai village was hit in her right thigh while she was in her house. The incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on 27 August while the naval force was shooting off several rounds of ammunition along the east of Kispanadi River.

Students from Sittwe University, University of Computer Studies (Sittwe), Technological University (Sittwe) and Taungup Degree College demand the Tatmadaw to immediately stop its arrest and persecution of people including students.

The Tatmadaw said that explosion killed a 19 year old girl named Yi Yi Soe who lives in Min Phoo village. But Yi Yi Soe’s parents have rejected the Tatmadaw’s explanations and said that their daughter was killed by gunfire by the Tatmadaw on February 19 this year. 

Parliamentarians and lawyers say the rights of families with members who died in Tatmadaw custody in Arakan State have been violated because they were not given the chance to retrieve the bodies of their relatives.

A Mrauk-U court on August 27 granted bail to Soe Moe Kyaw from Pyine Cha village in Mrauk-U township because he is under 18, nearly five months after he was detained on a Counter-terrorism Law charge.

Villagers said that the rocket shell that landed on the house came from a hill in the village from which the Tatmadaw fired artillery shells into the armed confrontational area. However, the Tatmadaw denied the accusation of the villagers.

A landmine explosion occurred near a border guard’s checkpoint on Maungdaw-Buthidaung road in the night of 25 August.

“Any military troops are not allowed to leave well from Arakanese land after killing our people,” said the AA’s spokesperson Khaing Thukha said.

The Tatmadaw troop positioned on a hill in the middle of Panmyaung village in Minbya Township fired artillery on the morning of 25 August, forcing villagers to flee from their homes, according to local sources.

If the Tatmadaw does not extend its unilateral ceasefire time past an August 31 deadline it will be important to reconsider how to move the peace process forward, General Yawd Serk, the temporary leader of Peace Process Steering Team (PPST), said at the first day of the PPST meeting

While family members were having breakfast in their house at about 10 a.m, an artillery shell landed on the house, killing Ma Nyo Nyo Win, 16, Maung Min Htet Kyaw, 9, and Maung Aung Kyaw Phyo, 6.

A man from Pauk Taw Pyin village, Mrauk-U Township, who was returning home from tending his cattle, was shot by Tatmadaw troops.

“I heard an explosion near the bridge. The Myanmar army reportedly shot into village following the explosion. Villagers fled from their homes. People ran to the monastery. She was hit while she was near the lake,” the senior monk said.

“To put it bluntly about these groups (Northern Alliance), the Tatmadaw welcomes them if they will come to the peace conference. If they want to fight, we are ready for that too,” Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo said.

The Yangon western district court set up a tribunal yesterday to deal with the case of Arakanese youths of Arakan Association (Singapore) who have been charged under Counter-Terrorism Law, according to lawyers.
