A village-tract administrator was stabbed to death by a group of people in Arakan State’s Thandwe Township at about 10 p.m. on July 2, according to his family members.
U Myo Oo, the 42-year-old administrator of Sin Gaung village-tract, was killed in a knife attack at his home by a group of eight people after having an argument with them and refusing to come along with them, said a family member who wished to remain anonymous.
“They entered to take him, but they got into an argument with him and started attacking him with a knife. The administrator was stabbed eight times and died from the injuries,” said the family member.
A file has been opened at the Shwe Li police station in relation to the case, according to family members of the victim.
U Myo Oo’s body was sent to Thandwe Hospital for autopsy, and military forces have been deployed to Sin Gaung village to investigate, locals said.
Though DMG phoned U Maung Thar Sein, chair of the Thandwe Township military council, and the Shwe Li police station seeking comment on the case, neither responded to the calls.
Several administrators at various levels of Myanmar’s administrative apparatus have been killed in townships across the country in the weeks and months since the military staged a coup on February 1, with the slain often accused of collaborating with the regime.
