Major-General Twan Mrat Naing, chief of the Arakan Army (AA), has told the public that the ethnic Arakanese Army is working with full confidence to conclude decisive battles in the remaining territories of Arakan State and achieve victory before the end of 2026 and 2027.
He made the remarks in a message delivered on the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the founding of the Arakan Army, which fell on April 10.
The Arakan Army has seized and now controls 14 townships in Arakan State and Paletwa Township in Chin State, and is currently operating administrative mechanisms while expanding military operations into mainland Myanmar.
Fighting continues in the remaining towns of Arakan State, including Sittwe and Kyaukphyu townships.
A 38-year-old man in Arakan State said, "The Arakan Army is an organization that speaks little and works much, so the people trust the words of its chief. Major-General Twan Mrat Naing has sent a message that Arakan State will be liberated soon. At the same time, I believe the people must continue to support and endure."
The Arakan Army is regarded as a successful revolutionary organization that managed to seize 15 townships during 2024.
At present, the Arakan Army continues to fight alongside allied revolutionary forces in mainland Myanmar, including Magway, Bago and Ayeyarwady regions, as well as Chin, Kachin and northern Shan states.
Another Arakanese youth said, "Because of its strong relationships with allied forces, the Arakan Army's victories stand out in Myanmar. I see this as part of Major-General Twan Mrat Naing's military strategy. Therefore, the Arakan Army has reached a crucial role in bringing an end to the military dictatorship."
The statement also noted that the Arakan Army is establishing sound policies to achieve success not only in military affairs but also in political, diplomatic and economic sectors. It added that the group highly values cooperation with allied organizations fighting against the military dictatorship.
The Arakan Army chief said the movement is a national liberation struggle involving the entire population, taking place more than 240 years after the loss of sovereignty in Arakan State.
He added that they will continue to march toward success in line with the lives, blood and sacrifices given by the people.
