Fighting between Myanmar's military regime and the Arakan Army (AA) continues on three fronts in the border areas, including Arakan State, the ethnic armed group said in a statement on Saturday.

The AA said that fighting is taking place in areas where the ethnic armed group is facing off against the military regime and where the final battle for control of towns remains to be completed in order to achieve all of the AA's expected military objectives.

Fighting continues in areas where the military regime is resisting an offensive along the Arakan Mountains, such as the Arakan-Magway border, Arakan-Bago border, and Arakan-Ayeyarwady border, and in areas where the Arakan Army is based.

"The fighting continues daily or frequently in the above-mentioned areas, fully realising our military objectives through balanced battles with defensive, offensive, mobile, and mobile warfare," the AA said.

The AA clashed with junta battalions under the military's Light Infantry Division No. 99 near Suntet Village in Magway Region's Ngaphe Township on August 14.

The AA seized 20 bodies of junta soldiers, weapons and military equipment during the 30-minute battle, the statement added.

A military and political observer said that the fighting is likely to continue to intensify as the military regime launches offensives to regain lost territory.

"The fighting could get even more intense. The AA has said it will not give up an inch of territory it controls and has reinforced its defences, so the fighting with the military regime could become more intense," he said.

AA spokesman U Khaing Thukha has said that the AA is unlikely to return the townships it has captured to the military regime.

The latest fighting, which began on November 13, 2023, has lasted nearly two years, and the AA currently controls 14 of the 17 townships in Arakan State and Paletwa Township in Chin State.

The military regime controls only Kyaukphyu, Sittwe, and Manaung in Arakan State, and while fighting is ongoing in Kyaukphyu, the AA says that the fighting is being delayed due to various reasons.

U Khaing Thukha earlier this month also reiterated that the main goal of the AA, since its inception, was and is still to conquer all of Arakan State, and put it in the hands of the Arakanese people.
