The Arakan Army (AA) said on October 10 that fighting is taking place almost daily at five key strategic locations across Arakan State and adjoining areas of Magway, Bago, and Ayeyarwady regions, as the Myanmar military continues to launch major offensives.
According to the AA, its forces — in coordination with allied revolutionary groups — have been engaged in fierce battles along the border areas between Arakan and neighboring regions.
On October 10, junta troops advancing toward Letha Mountain in Pantan Township, Bago Region, reportedly came under intense attack by the AA and its allied forces, forcing the column to retreat, military sources said.
“The junta column moving from the Sinlan direction suffered heavy casualties after being ambushed by the AA. The military used air support to evacuate their wounded and retrieve bodies,” said a military source close to the AA.
The AA has reportedly been attacking the Sinlan base since the first week of October. Junta troops have reinforced the position with more than 100 soldiers, while additional reinforcements and artillery support have been sent from nearby units in Pantan Township, according to field sources.
“The junta is building new bunkers and fortifying positions around Nyaung Khyay Htauk, and they are using air and artillery support in an attempt to retake Nyaung Kyaw,” another source added.
Similarly, along the Ann–Padan route on the Magway side of the Arakan border, the AA is besieging the junta’s final stronghold at the Nat Yay Kan strategic hill base, which remains under regime control.
The junta is reportedly deploying thousands of troops in repeated efforts to defend the base, military sources said.
Meanwhile, junta forces are also attempting to retake Gote Gyi Village, which is under AA control, while the AA has launched counteroffensives to repel these assaults, resulting in ongoing clashes.
Another military source said: “The junta is sending newly trained soldiers to frontlines along the Arakan border. Many of them are inexperienced — some have fled or surrendered their weapons.”
The AA also stated that the junta is preparing to launch further offensives into areas under AA control in the coming days.
Currently, clashes between the junta and the AA are ongoing in Sittwe and Kyaukphyu, with heavy junta casualties reported in the latter, according to local sources.
In addition, the AA has also been fighting Muslim armed groups, including the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), in northern Maungdaw Township near the Bangladesh border in recent days.
