At least four civilians were killed and seven others were injured when a junta jet fighter dropped several bombs on Kintaung, a model village in Arakan State's Taungup Township, during two sorties at around 2 a.m. on October 4.
"The junta launched an airstrike on Kintaung Village early Friday morning without any fighting in the area. Scores of civilian casualties were reported as the villagers were sleeping at the time of the junta airstrike," said a local woman.
The deceased have been identified as Maung Zaw Hein, 9, Daw Mya Yi, 62, U Mya Tin, 74, and Daw Mya Kyi, a woman in her 70s. Among the injured, the youngest is a 10-year-old boy, and a man aged 73 and an 87-year-old woman were the attack's eldest victims.
Three of those injured are receiving medical treatment and their conditions are considered life-threatening.
Kintaung Village is located about 10 miles from Taungup Town, and has more than 1,000 homes. The junta jet fighter dropped bombs on the village's monastery, school and residential area, destroying at least 13 homes.
"Due to the military regime's deliberate attack like this, the locals are fleeing for fear of further attacks," said a local man.
Maung Moe Myint, a 14-year-old boy, was injured in a junta air assault on Khaunglaungtu Village in Taungup Township on Wednesday night.
Civilian casualties continue to rise in conflict-torn Arakan State due to the Myanmar regime's aerial bombardments of residential areas.
