A two-day meeting of the Peace Process Steering Team (PPST) held on May 27 and 28 will result in the reconstitution of the Federal Constitution Drafting Working Group, which will be approved at the next meeting, according to concluding remarks by General Yawd Serk, the interim leader of the PPST.
The views of various organisations on the current political situation in Myanmar were discussed, as well as details of the ethnic armed organisations’ (EAOs) consolidation.
The meeting also discussed the mediation of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement-affiliated countries and organisations to resolve Myanmar’s political crisis.
General Yawd Serk also said that he would work with all relevant organisations at home and abroad to resolve the political crisis in Myanmar as soon as possible.
He also urged ethnic armed groups to take into account the current situation and act with caution.
Myanmar’s reputation globally has diminished as a result of the February 1 coup and subsequent actions taken by the military government, the head of the PPST said on May 27.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) says that in the 115 days between February 1 and May 26, 828 civilians were killed and 5,441 were arrested by junta forces.
A statement issued by the PPST said the military was ignoring calls for an immediate end to all acts of violence; demands that have been made by both international and local organisations.
The PPST is made up of the 10 ethnic armed groups that have signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
