The Myanmar military carried out airstrikes on the Zeechaung mountain range in Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State - territory under the control of the Arakan Army (AA) - on the night of September 10, according to local sources.

At around 10 p.m., a junta jet fighter flew over the Zeechaung mountains near Thit Ta Pone village and the Thit Ta Pone dam, dropping no fewer than six bombs over two passes, locals said.

A man from Thit Ta Pone village recounted: "The jet came and bombed into the hills a bit far from the village, so no villagers were harmed. But the explosions were very loud. Because it was nighttime, everyone panicked and no one could sleep."

Residents said the bombs fell east of the Kyauktaw-Paletwa road, in the Zeechaung mountain range, meaning no civilians were directly hit.

However, people in nearby villages - including Thit Ta Pone, Lapan, Min Thar Taung, and Spaseik - reported being gripped by fear and anxiety.

"Around the time people were about to go to sleep, the aircraft flew in very loudly, circled, and dropped bombs. Then it circled again and dropped more. After hearing the blasts, no one could sleep. We just kept listening in case more came," said a woman from Lapan village.

Earlier that afternoon, reconnaissance planes had flown over Kyauktaw, causing alarm. The evening airstrikes confirmed people's worst fears.

"Around midday yesterday, a surveillance aircraft circled over Kyauktaw town and nearby areas. Everyone feared something would happen. And then at night, the bombing began," said another resident of Lapan village.

According to DMG records, since the AA seized control of Kyauktaw Township on February 13, 2024, the junta has conducted at least 15 aerial bombardments there, up to September 11, 2025.

These bombings have killed at least 29 civilians, injured more than 125 others, and destroyed scores of homes, schools, hospitals, and other civilian buildings.

A local resident said: "The junta often bombs residential neighborhoods and hospitals. Many people have died. We are forced to flee for safety again and again. These are war crimes the junta is committing against civilians."

On August 25, a junta airstrike on Daingkyi Ward in Mrauk-U dropped two 500-pound bombs, killing 15 people, including children, and injuring 17.

According to AA statistics, from November 2023, when renewed fighting began, until August 2025, junta attacks have killed 926 civilians and wounded 1,954 across Arakan State.

Human rights activists say such direct attacks on civilians amount to grave violations of international law, and that the junta must be held accountable.
