Junta convoy retreats after heavy casualties in Nat Yay Kan reinforcement attempt

A military junta convoy attempting to reinforce the strategic Nat Yay Kan base along the Ann-Padan Road in Ngaphe Township , Magway Region, was forced to retreat after suffering heavy casualties in attacks by the Arakan Army and allied forces, according to local military sources.

Since July 25, the regime has been attempting to send troop reinforcements from Artillery Battalion No. 905 in Padan Town to the Nat Yay Kan base on the Arakan mountain range.

The convoy came under coordinated drone strikes, artillery attacks, and ground ambushes by the Arakan Army near Pazi and Gotegyi villages in Ngaphe Township, forcing regime troops to withdraw with wounded soldiers, a frontline military source said.

"The military convoy reinforcing Nat Yay Kan was hit hard by ambushes and pulled back with casualties. However, some forward infantry columns remain scattered in the area, and ground clashes are continuing daily," the source said.

The Arakan Army and allied forces are currently conducting clearance operations against scattered and disorganized junta troops near Pazi and Gotegyi villages. Meanwhile, regime forces have launched airstrikes to provide air support, resulting in continued clashes near Nat Yay Kan.

The junta convoy, consisting of around 70 vehicles, was originally dispatched from the Northwestern Command in Monywa. After advancing through Magway Town, the force split into two columns, with one heading toward the Nat Yay Kan tactical base and the other moving toward Salin and Saw townships.

The Arakan Army and allied forces have maintained their siege of the Nat Yay Kan air defence base and have repeatedly intercepted junta reinforcement columns.

Military observers said the regime is attempting to push through reinforcements at any cost because the Nat Yay Kan front is strategically important for protecting its weapons factories.

"Nat Yay Kan can be considered a key base for the junta's Magway front," a local military observer said. "First, it serves as a national-level air defence facility. Second, it acts as a major defensive shield for junta weapons factories and Magway Region. Therefore, the regime is determined to defend it with all available forces."

The Arakan Army and allied forces have been besieging the Nat Yay Kan tactical base since early 2025. After capturing numerous surrounding outposts, revolutionary forces have kept the main hilltop base under siege.

To prevent the fall of the Nat Yay Kan base, the regime has repeatedly rotated troops from Light Infantry Divisions (LID) 77 and 99, Military Operations Commands (MOC) 10, 14, and 17, as well as junta-backed militia forces.
