A Muslim man from Ywama Village, Kyetyoepyin Village-tract, in Arakan State’s Maungdaw Township, is receiving medical treatment at Maungdaw District Hospital after being shot, according to family members.
The 32-year-old identified as Mahmud Ileus was shot in the thigh at about 4 p.m. on November 30 while making a purchase at a grocery store in the village bazaar, said his elder brother Mahmud Adieus.
“He [Mahmud Ileus] was shot with a pistol while he was in the village’s market. He sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh,” his brother told DMG.
Mahmud Adieus identified the alleged gunman as a man named Gornia, a resident of Ngarsarkyue Village who knows Mahmud Ileus.
“The gunman had quarreled with my younger brother over a social issue. The gunman is still on the run. My younger brother is being treated at Maungdaw Hospital and his condition is considered life-threatening,” Mahmud Adieus said.
Authorities are reportedly working to arrest the fugitive gunman.
