Myanmar’s military regime bombed Ngalonesu Village in Kyaukphyu Township, Arakan State, at around 7 p.m. on December 11, killing eight displaced people and injuring at least 10 others, according to local sources.
Ngalonesu Village, located near Maday Island, is home to many people who fled fighting in Kyaukphyu Township.
“A junta jet fighter dropped two 500-pound bombs on Ngalonesu Village. There were many casualties. The village is home to many displaced people. Among the dead and injured are both IDPs and residents. We are still investigating the names,” a Kyaukphyu resident told DMG.
Residents of Ngalonesu and nearby Mahnyichaung, Indainggyi, Ngataung Mawmyint and Gantgaw villages said they were increasingly worried about airstrikes.
“People are fleeing the war but are being killed by the military regime. Locals in nearby villages feel the same. There are growing concerns about where to flee if there are more airstrikes,” another Kyaukphyu resident said.
Fighting between the military regime and the Arakan Army continues in Kyaukphyu Township, driving up the number of displaced people.
The military regime has carried out near-daily airstrikes in Mrauk-U, Gwa and Kyaukphyu townships in recent days, with civilian casualties rising.
Civil society groups warn that local people in Arakan State must take special precautions due to ongoing junta air attacks.
