Community based basic sewing course offered

A community based basic sewing training course is being presented to 20 women from Buddhist, Muslim and Hindu communities in Maungdaw Township.

A community based basic sewing training course is being presented to 20 women from Buddhist, Muslim and Hindu communities in Maungdaw Township.

The one-month long training program kicked off 10 June and its opening was held at the post primary school in Shwe Sar village in Maungdaw Township.

Any person from the age of 16 to 35 years old regardless of religious affiliations can join the training course that has been presented by the School for Home Science (Sittwe) under the Department of Social Welfare, said Daw Hla Hla Yin, principal of the School for Home Science in Sittwe.

“Maungdaw region is one of the special areas that’s included in our project for the development of women. We will keep on providing the sewing training courses in the future. People from all faiths, men or women, can join the community based vocational training,” she said.

The School for Home Science is providing community based vocational training in prisons and refugee camps in Arakan State.

The first community-based sewing training program was offered in Kaing Gyi (Mro) village in Maungdaw Township in 2018.
