The Arakan Army (AA) took control of the entire Paletwa area on January 14, the ethnic armed group said in a statement on Sunday, two months after AA forces began their attacks on regime positions in Chin State’s Paletwa Township and in neighbouring Arakan State.

The AA continued to attack a junta tactical command base near Hnamadar Village and successfully seized the military base at about 3 p.m. January 14, making the entire Paletwa area a military regime-free zone, the ethnic armed group said.

The AA was able to take control of the entire Paletwa area only after the military outposts were strategically captured one by one, it added.

“Rome cannot be built in a day,” the AA said in a statement, adding that the seizure of all junta tactical command bases, military outposts and military camps in Arakan and Paletwa area did not come easily.

It was also announced that the AA was able to capture the strategic tactical command bases, military camps and BGF outposts in spite of the military regime’s heavy counterattacks on the important cities of northern Arakan State by air, sea and heavy artillery support.

The AA captured the Paletwa-based Light Infantry Battalion No 289, which was a major divisional headquarters that managed and commanded all regime bases in Paletwa and was jointly supervised by divisional commanders, on January 10.
