The Chin Brotherhood announced on September 25 that it would oppose the junta-organised election scheduled for December 28, saying it was illegally created without the will of the people.

The statement said the Chin Brotherhood prohibits all efforts to hold junta-sponsored elections in areas controlled by the alliance of Chin ethnic armed groups.

"The Chin Brotherhood will take decisive action against political parties, parliamentarians, and anyone who participates in the military regime's sham elections," the statement said.

The Chin Brotherhood statement also urges the public not to participate in the junta's planned election.

The statement said that the military regime's continued detention of political prisoners, targeted attacks on civilians across the country, and the absence of political parties representing the people will make this election a sham, lacking freedom and fairness.

"It is not surprising that the Chin Brotherhood does not allow elections in the areas it controls," said a political observer in Chin State. "I see the Chin Brotherhood doing what it should do. Previous elections did not bring much change in Chin State. So now I see the Chin Brotherhood preventing the elections because they do not want the military regime to become more legitimate."

The Chin Brotherhood said the illegal election results would not only prevent a democratically elected government from being established, but would also exacerbate conflict.

The Chin Brotherhood said it would join forces with partner revolutionary organisations across Myanmar to oppose the junta-sponsored election, and appealed to international organisations not to support the military regime's sham election.

"The Chin Brotherhood could seize the assets of parliamentary candidates and people supporting the junta-organised election. The main thing is that parliamentary candidates and supporters of the junta-sponsored election in Chin Brotherhood-controlled areas could be arrested," said another political observer in Chin State.

The Chin Brotherhood controls the towns of Matupi, Mindat, Kanpetlet, Falam and Kyin Dwe, out of the nine townships in Chin State.

According to a military regime announcement, elections in Chin State will not be held in Paletwa, Kanpetlet, Mindat and Matupi townships, and will only be held in Thangtlang, Haka, Falam, Tedim and Tonzang townships, which are under Chin National Front/Chin National Army (CNF/CNA) control.

Five seats will be contested in the Pyithu Hluttaw, three seats in the Amyotha Hluttaw through the First-past-the-post (FPTP) voting system, six seats through the Proportional Representation system, and five seats in the Chin State parliament through the FPTP system and nine seats through the PR system, for a total of 29 seats.

The military regime has announced that the New Chin State Congress Party, Zomi National Party (ZNP) and Khumi National Party (KNP) have indicated that they will contest the elections to be held in December 2025 in Chin State.

The Chin Brotherhood - consisting of the Zomi Federal Union, Chin National Organization, Mindat Chin National Council, Maraland and Kampelet Chin Defense Forces (CDF), and Matupi CDF Brigade 1 - was formed on December 30, 2023.
