A junta jet fighter bombed positions near Dawmya Village, part of Arakan State’s Thandwe Township, at around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, according to residents.

The junta plane dropped bombs on a border area between Thandwe and Taungup townships without there being fighting between the Myanmar military and Arakan Army (AA) in the area, a local man told DMG.

“I heard four explosions and the junta jet fighter carried out aerial bombardment on the mountain ranges near Dawmya Village,” he explained.

Details of the damage caused by the junta airstrike were not yet known as of press time, but residents are worried that their lives will be imperiled.

“Locals are concerned for their safety due to the regime shelling. We are worried about the possibility of fighting in the area,” said a local woman in Thandwe.

The Arakan Army launched an assault on Ramree in December 2023 and seized the island town on March 11 of this year. The regime has increased its military presence, expanded new outposts and tightened security in southern Arakan State since the AA’s seizure of Ramree.

“The AA has seized dozens of junta camps and several towns in Arakan State. The AA will also attempt to occupy the remaining townships in Arakan State. This is the reason why the regime is making preparations militarily in advance,” said a social activist in Arakan State.

The AA has been conducting daily attacks in Arakan State and neighbouring Paletwa Township, Chin State. It has seized over 160 junta positions since fresh fighting broke out on November 13.

To date, the AA has seized eight towns — Rathedaung, Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Myebon, Pauktaw and Ramree — in Arakan State and Paletwa Township in southern Chin State.

Civilian casualties have been rising due to the junta’s artillery attacks and airstrikes on towns and villages controlled by the AA in Arakan State.
