Daily clashes have continued between the Myanmar military and the Arakan Army (AA) near Gote Gyi Village, located along the Ann–Padan road on the Magway side of the Arakan border, according to military sources close to the AA.
Fighting has intensified as junta troops attempt to retake Gote Gyi Village, which is under AA control, while the AA mounts counteroffensives to repel their advances.
“There are still junta troops in the surrounding area. Both sides are attacking alternately. Fighting has been happening every day,” said a military source close to the AA.
The Arakan Army seized Gote Gyi Village — a key stronghold forming part of the junta’s Nat Yay Kan strategic defense line — on 28 September.
At present, only one major base of the Nat Yay Kan defensive line remains under junta control along the Ann–Padan route on the Magway side, and the AA is said to be encircling and attacking it.
The AA’s assaults on the strategic base have been ongoing for several months, and the group continues to attack surrounding areas and supply routes connected to the position.
“Tactically, the stronghold sits on elevated terrain. The AA must push uphill to capture it, which is why the clashes have been intense and prolonged. They’re clearing surrounding support bases and routes first, then advancing strategically toward the main defensive hill,” said a military observer monitoring the conflict in Arakan.
The AA’s offensives, which began in November 2023, are now approaching two years. The ethnic armed group continues to conduct assaults not only in Kyaukphyu but also across multiple townships bordering Arakan and Magway regions.
