Fighting between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) is escalating near Satthwar Village, about 13 miles from Gwa Town in Arakan State, according to sources on the ground.
Fighting between the military and AA began near Satthwar Village on November 10. Clashes have continued to intensify, with the regime defending against AA attacks with aerial and naval support.
"It has been three days since the AA has been fiercely attacking the military. We heard the sound of a gunfight at around 10 a.m. today. The regime carried out an airstrike on the scene of fighting, damaging some homes," said a source.
The AA's advance is verging on Satthwar Village and the regime has prepared a defence at the village, and sent reinforcements from Ayeyarwady Region to the area.
"Since the first week of November, the regime has been using water routes to transport weapons including howitzers from Ayeyarwady Region to Gwa Township. A few people remain in Gwa and almost all residents have fled to safer locations," said a source on the ground.
The AA seized a junta camp and a junta artillery battalion on Mt. Bagan, near Gwa Township's Taingkyo Village, on November 6.
Gwa Township, bordering Ayeyarwady Region in the far south of Arakan State, is an important territory for the regime as well as for the AA's military strategy.
