Six civilians, including a child, were injured as the Myanmar regime launched air and naval attacks on Gwa Township in southern Arakan State, which is controlled by the Arakan Army, in recent days.

At around 9 a.m. on 8 July, the junta navy shelled Kyeintali Town in Gwa Township with heavy artillery from offshore, injuring six residents, including a child.

The injured are Daw Ma Htar, 45; Daw Than May, 74; Ma Yadanar Tun, 5; U Nyo Tun, 48; Ma Thin Thiri Tun, 17; and Daw Mi Wine, 50, all residents of Ward No. 3 in Kyeintali Town.

According to local residents, the regime also carried out airstrikes on the technical school near Gwa Town and areas around Sipin Village on 7 July using a jet fighter. On 8 July, junta naval vessels continued shelling from the sea.

A Gwa resident said: "The first time, they dropped one bomb from a jet. About an hour later, they dropped three more bombs. Since they landed near the town and in the forested and mountainous areas, there were no civilian casualties. Today, the junta navy is also shelling."

The regime, which has suffered heavy military losses in Ayeyarwady Region, has been carrying out daily airstrikes and naval attacks on Gwa Township and the surrounding areas of Kyeintali Town, which borders Arakan State.

Local residents say they are taking extra precautions for their safety.

Another resident of Gwa said: "They don't seem very worried. Since the jet attacks are not as intense as those in northern Arakan, people take shelter briefly when they occur and then return to their normal activities."

The Arakan Army fully captured Gwa Township in southern Arakan State on 29 December 2024.

After the Arakan Army seized military bases one after another in Yekyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region, which borders Gwa Township, the regime has intensified its airstrikes and shelling on Gwa Township.
