Clashes have intensified across the Kyaukphyu battlefront in Arakan State as the Arakan Army (AA) launched an offensive targeting the military junta's Taung Maw Oo naval station, according to local military sources.
Heavy fighting has raged continuously near Taung Maw Oo naval station since early October. In response, junta forces have mounted defensive operations backed by heavy artillery fire, drone strikes, and frequent aerial bombardments.
"The fighting has been non-stop since the beginning of this month," said a local resident in Kyaukphyu who monitors military developments. "The military regime is firing all available heavy weaponry while the Arakan Army is conducting relentless artillery shelling in return."
Around 7:00 a.m. on 9 October, junta jet fighters and Y-12 aircraft conducted airstrikes and reconnaissance flights near the Taung Maw Oo naval facility, according to frontline sources.
Shifting from defensive postures to active offensive maneuvers, Arakan Army troops have gradually penetrated junta security perimeters near the naval station and captured several frontline outposts.
"Over recent days, the Arakan Army has been advancing directly against junta strongholds," said another local resident familiar with the military situation. "Previously, the Arakan Army mainly repelled junta advances. Now, the Arakan Army is pushing forward aggressively, forcing the regime into an intense defensive stance."
Under Operation 4926, the military regime attempted to use the Taung Maw Oo naval station as an operational launchpad to advance toward Sanae Town in Kyaukphyu Township and project military force toward Ramree Township.
However, the Arakan Army countered with coordinated defensive and offensive operations before stepping up its current offensive, putting severe tactical pressure on Taung Maw Oo naval station.
"Following the capture of Ramree Town, the Arakan Army could have seized Taung Maw Oo naval station earlier, but chose to hold back and monitor regime movements," said a young local man from Kyaukphyu Township. "The junta attempted to use this naval base to push toward Sanae Town, but the Arakan Army maintains full military superiority on the ground."
In addition to fighting around Taung Maw Oo naval station, frequent clashes have broken out across at least five key locations on the Kyaukphyu front, including Minpyin, Chaungmyaung, Thaingchaung, and Hsinbote village tracts, where junta troops have attempted localized advances.
Due to the presence of Chinese megaprojects in Kyaukphyu Township, the Arakan Army previously exercised strategic restraint, pulling back from areas adjacent to urban centers and maintaining defensive positions.
However, military analysts note that after the regime launched Operation 4926 from Sittwe and escalated its offensives in Kyaukphyu, the battle for Kyaukphyu has now shifted toward the final phase of town capture operations in Arakan State.
