The Myanmar military regime has continued its series of airstrikes targeting schools and students across multiple regions — including Arakan, Chin, Karen, Sagaing, and Ayeyarwady — according to local reports.

On October 8, junta airstrikes hit schools in Htin Chaung and Wam Thu villages in Mindat Township, Chin State, killing four people, including three students, and injuring 20 others, among them several students.

Authorities in Chin State confirmed that all schools in Mindat Township have been closed following the airstrikes.

Similarly, on September 12, the junta bombed two private high schools in Thayet Ta Pin Village, Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State, killing 20 students and injuring 28 others, according to an announcement by the Arakan Army (AA).

Earlier, on September 4 and June 9, junta aircraft bombed schools in Naung Ta Khee Village, Hpa-an Township, and Kawkareik Township, Karen State. Those attacks killed five students and wounded 25 teachers and students.

In Lay Myat Hnar Township, Ayeyarwady Region, a junta drone strike on August 27 injured 15 teachers and students, according to local sources.

Teachers and parents across the country have condemned the repeated attacks on schools and children, calling them inhumane and unacceptable.

“We cannot accept that students are being deliberately targeted and killed,” said U Oo Tha, a teacher from Thayet Ta Pin Village, Kyauktaw Township. “Those who order and carry out these airstrikes on innocent children are completely devoid of humanity. They must be held accountable for these crimes.”

Since seizing power in 2021, the junta has routinely bombed civilian targets, including schools, monasteries, IDP camps, and marketplaces, across the country.

According to figures compiled by DMG, at least 180 students and teachers have been killed or injured in junta airstrikes on schools across Myanmar in 2025 alone.

The regime has launched airstrikes on at least eight schools in six regions and states so far this year, killing 51 students and teachers and injuring 129 others.

An Arakan political analyst said these systematic attacks on schools and students amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, as they appear to aim at eliminating the next generation.

“Most of these school bombings occur in areas controlled by resistance forces. The junta labels civilians in those regions as supporters of the resistance, so it deliberately targets schools and children. This is not just an act of terror — it is part of a campaign to destroy an entire generation,” the analyst said.

The UNICEF office in Myanmar has also condemned the military’s ongoing attacks on schools and students, calling for an immediate end to violence against children nationwide in a statement released on September 12.
