Myanmar's military regime is reported to have carried out bombing raids and shellings on villages along the border of Sittwe and Ponnagyun townships in Arakan State.
A junta jet fighter dropped multiple bombs on Wah Bo, Sabahtar and Khamaungdaw villages along the border of Sittwe and Ponnagyun townships at around 9 p.m. on October 26, locals said.
"A junta jet fighter carried out airstrikes two times on some villages last night. Some homes in Sittwe were shaken by junta airstrikes," said a resident of Sittwe on Sunday.
Locals in Sittwe said they heard the sounds of mortar shells fired by regime troops at Shwe Min Gan Port and a Pardalaik Village-based junta battalion.
"We heard the sound of mortar attack shortly after the junta airstrike. We also heard the sound of gunfire," said a local woman in Sittwe.
A Y-12 military aircraft reportedly conducted airstrikes on Tawkan, Wah Bo, Minhla and Nyaungyaychaung villages in Sittwe Township and Kuntaung, Aungmyaygon, Sabahtar and Khamaungtaw villages in Ponnagyun Township on September 29.
Local people from villages in the area have been displaced by the battle along the Sittwe-Ponnagyun border, and some remained in their villages to protect their property such as homes and cattle.
Tensions between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) are escalating in Sittwe Township as the ethnic armed group closes in on the Arakan State capital.
