A junta airstrike on Phetkyat Village, part of Arakan State’s Ramree Township, killed a child and injured two others at around 12 noon on March 30.

The deceased has been identified as Maung Phyo Ko, 13, and the injured are U Bo Khaing, in his 50s, and Daw Khin San Yi in her 40s.

“A junta jet fighter dropped two bombs on the village. We fled to a safe place. The junta air attack killed a child. The condition of the injured is considered not life-threatening,” said a local woman.

The Arakan Army (AA) seized Ramree, an island town, on March 11 following a three-month offensive. Civilian casualties have been on the rise due to the junta’s indiscriminate shelling and airstrikes on towns held by the AA.

“The regime has been attacking the AA-held towns intentionally. The regime has been carrying out airstrikes on civilian areas deliberately as it could not defeat the AA,” said a resident of Ramree.

Five civilians were severely injured after an artillery shell fired by junta troops in Ann landed and exploded in Kanhtaunggyi town on March 29.

Three junta jet fighters dropped several bombs on Thaekan Village, part of Arakan State’s Minbya Township and held by the AA, at about 11 p.m. on Friday, wounding two people, including a Buddhist monk.

Civilian casualties have been steadily rising due to the junta’s artillery attacks and airstrikes on towns and villages controlled by the AA in Arakan State.

Hundreds of civilian casualties were reported in Sittwe, Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Myebon, Kyaukphyu and Ramree townships due to the junta’s indiscriminate shelling and airstrikes this month.
